Research Proposal for Arguement Essay

For my topic i have decided to write on gun control. I do not think there should be regulations on what guns you can and cant buy. Three reasons for my side is you have the freedom to do and buy anything and you should not have to be told what you cant buy. They are not illegal and as long as you know who buys the gun it should not matter. If someone wants to buy a gun for the wrong reason they will find a way to get that gun. Some reasons on the other side is that it might help reduce crime. Help keep track of guns. Helps the police do there job without fear for their life. Whenever things become illegal people like to rebel and do what is wrong, if they are not illegal people tend to not be as hasty to get it. If guns would not be illegal they would not be bought as much and not used in crimes reducing the crime rate.

Field Research

1. What are the effects of steroids?
  • Skin rashes, body acne, hair growth, mood swings, cancer, death.
2. How often do people have to be admitted because they are addicted to the drug?
  • If they think that they are addicted they will come in to go through treatment but over 90%of people usually do nothing.
3. Why would someone take steroids?
  • To increase their athletic ability in order to increase their wealth. Also many people take them to gain a better body physique and to gain strength.
4. Is their other natural and non illegal ways to end up with the same outcome?
  • No. You can take protein and creatine and other stimulants to help with muscle growth but they do not have the same effects as steroids.

Brainstorming for the Application Project

  • A steroid user in baseball
  • A drug user and how it affects my family
  • A person running for president

Narrowing My Topic

My topic which if you don't know what it is Steroids in baseball. I believe I need to narrow my topic a bit but not too much or I wont have enough information to write my paper. My topic i believe i need to focus more on the effects of the steroids on the actual players. Instead of doing the broad topic of the history of steroid use in baseball i am going to focus on a couple players and go into depth about why they took the drugs and did they really help the players. Barry Bonds is one of the players that i will focus on and there are a few players mentioned in the Mitchell report that i will decide later on in my research who they will be. Finally i will try to end my essay on the consequences and how steroids are going taken out of the sport.

My Research Project

1.)
  • What is an anabolic steroid?
  • Why are steroids banned from baseball?
  • Who is checking up on the players to make sure they are not using steroids?
  • How are steroids dangerous?
  • Should a player caught using steroids not be able to play baseball again?
  • Could the steroids potentially hurt you and even cause death?
  • When were steroids banned?
  • Would they ever be legal to use in baseball?
  • Where do the steroids come from?
  • Why do players take steroids if it could cause them harm?

2.)

Why do the players take steroids if it could cause them harm?

3.)

If steroids potentially cause harm to your body or even death, what causes a major league baseball player to take them?

4.)

How has taking steroids caused a athlete to become a better ball player?

5.)

I found some great research sites. One is http://www.cbc.ca/sports/indepth/drugs/stories/baseball_congress.html. It basically shows that you may be able to play baseball a little better then someone else if you take steroids but the lasting effects are really not worth it.

Steroids Research

My research on steroids in baseball has been a success so far. I was looking at the side effects that steroids can do to your body after taking them. One fact that i did not know bout steroids is that by taking anabolic steroids it could cause liver failure. The most common effect to the liver is called anemia which is when your iron is low. All this information and more is found on the site http://www.sportsci.org/encyc/anabstereff/anabstereff.html. I also found a link off of ESPN, http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/news/mitchell/index.jsp, which gives the whole Mitchell report. I learned while reading some of the Mitchell report that it gives specific details of people who were caught with steroids and how. Alex Cabrera in 2000 was caught in the Arizona Diamondbacks locker room with anabolic steroids, a syringe, and a hundred pills. By the time they could go forward with a trial to ban him from baseball, he was in japan playing in the japan leagues so they did not go forward. This is just some of the great information that I am collecting and there will be a lot more to come.

Steroids, Banned from Sports!

I have decided to write my research paper on the use of steroids in major league sporting events. I will go over the effects of steroids, why they are banned from the sports, and what is being done to make sure they stay out of the sports. I decided to write about this topic because i am an avid sports fan. I do not see why athletes have to harm themselves to be just one step faster or so they can lift ten pounds more. To me i think that there is no reason for someone to harm their body for something that small. I hate seeing kids look up to these players and they want to be like them but they will never be like the athlete unless they take performance enhancers. I want to make it known that steroids should stay out of sports.

I have researched the topic of steroids before. I followed the Marshall report about the scandal of hundreds of baseball and football players taking steroids or something along the lines of them. I have studied the effects of steroids. They can cause acne, bad tempers, mood swings, cancer, heart failure, and the shrinking of testicles.

I would like to know the measures that they are taking to keep steroids out of the major leagues for good. I also would like to learn how the addicted players are being helped so they don't try doing them again. Also, are the players who have taken the steroids been treated differently since they were tested. Finally, how has this effected children on the way they look at the sports now?

Brainstorming

  • What you have to do to become an Olympian
  • Obama vs. McCain, who has the best campaign?
  • Drunk Driving
  • Gun Control, good or bad?
  • Crime Patrol, Are cops doing thier Job?
  • Politics
  • Steroids, Should they be banned from sports?
  • The effects of alcohol, Should it be banned?
  • The effects of letting prisoners out early
  • Abortion, Pro Life or Pro Death?
  • Downloading, hurting or bettering the economy?
